Course Objective

This course aims to research the relationships between tangible and intangible cultural heritage.

3   Associating living culture to building culture.
4   Questioning with examples the relationships between living culture and building culture
5   Developing suggestions of intagrated conservation.

2 Understanding intangible cultural heritage as interface between diverse disciplines: architecture, social anthropology, folklore, geography, history, social and environmental psychology, sociology
3 Conventions: Unesco 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, Unesco 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions
4 Intangible values and historic environments
5 Reading and discussing (Rapaport, Akagawa, )
6 Culture: Living culture, building culture, value systems
7 Intangible values / Cultural expressions within built environment
8 Cultural practices / activities: Economical activities, domestic activities and social practices
