Course Objective

In the context of preserving historical areas with cultural significance and passing them on to future generations, this course aims to define and discuss the conservation problems of historical commercial areas, which were examined in detail in Conservation Project-I. Furthermore, the course involves developing intervention decisions related to the identified conservation problems.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to describe the basic concepts related to the conservation problems and intervantions regarding historic fabric
2   Showing awareness about conservation problems of historical fabric
3   To be able to evaluate historical fabric comparatively by considering conservation problems and potentials
4   To be able to identify and discuss the conservation problems of the historical commercial fabric, and to propose intervention decisions
5   To be able to express in visual, verbal and written form, analysis, problem determination, intervention, developing proposal etc. for historical fabric by using current technology

1 Introduction. Explanation of the purpose, content and teaching method of the course. -Lecture: Conservation Problems of Historical Fabric, and their imğacts on tthe Historical Commercial Areas
2 -Student Presentations: Presentation of the studies that finalized in the Conservation Project- I -Definition of the fieldwork
3 Fieldwork: Survey study and data collection on identifying conservation issues of the area studied in Conservation-I

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The course will be conducted in two stages, and each stage will start with theoretical lectures provided by the instructors.
Following the theoretical instruction, the learning process in the project-based studio will continue with data evaluation, problem-solving, and the formulation of presenting the ideas. Through the individual and group criticals, conservation problems will be discussed and the decisions related to the conservation interventions will be proposed.
The learning process will follow up by the mid deliveries and evaluate by the final submission.
