Course Objective

The purpose of this course is to evaluate and analyze the concepts of private and public space from multidimensional views; and to develop design solutions for a theme structured around the framework of a private sphere by considering slope/elevation relations of terrain.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Distinguish between 'private space' and 'public space' by describing the user's basic experiences of private space and identifying different patterns of behaviour in private versus public spaces.
2   Identify the spatial equivalents of private living space requirements.
3   Generate data through environmental and programme analysis for a given residential design problem and determine design priorities through analysis of the generated data.
4   Create architectural solutions by focusing defined design priorities around a clear architectural idea.
5   Integrate proposed architectural solutions into architectural presentations by considering space organisation and architectural space components, using different presentation tools to maintain coherence between ideas and language.
