Course Objective

This course, which is a continuation of the Introduction to Architectural History course, aims to outline the main developments and characteristic periods in the history of architecture, starting from Ancient Greek architecture, in the context of their social, economic and geographical backgrounds, institutions, settlement styles, building types and construction techniques. The chronological period covered by the course is from Ancient times to the Industrial Revolution.

1   Understanding the historical meaning of architecture,
2   Gaining a theoretical background on architectural history concepts and terminology,
3   To understand the characteristic periods in the history of architecture in outline,
4   Examining and evaluating the historical environment from different dimensions,
5   Understand the major developments in the history of architecture from ancient times to the Industrial Revolution
