Course Objective

The objective is to inform the future architects about the historical environment, conservation and restoration phenomenon, the concepts and current approaches in this issue, the historical assets in Anatolia, to raise awareness and sensitivity in every aspect of approach to the historical environment.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Ability to explain the basic and current concepts about historical environment, conservation and restoration.
2   Ability to explain the historical values of Anatolia.
3   Ability to comment upon the protection issues regarding historical environment.
4   Ability to criticize the protection history of the country and to envision the approaches towards the solutions of the problems of protecting the historical values.
5   Ability to interrelate and compare archeological sites and monuments as elements of historical environment.
6   Ability to discuss protection laws and decisions on principles.
7   Ability to evaluate the work of art within the frame of system of values regarding the detection of the work of art to be protected.
8   Ability to communicate a research about historical environment in visual, written and oral form using up-to-date technology.

Informational aspect of learning outputs (LO1) are measured by mid-term and final exam, while comprehension aspect (LO2, LO3) is measured by mid-term, final exam and assignment; application aspect (LO4) is measured by final exam, assignment and class participation; analysis aspect (LO5, LO6) is measured by final exam and class participation; and evaluation aspect (LO7) is measured by mid-term, final exam and class participation; (LO8) is measured by assignment.

Evaluation regarding the class participation shall be determined by student's attendance, active participation in the discussions during the class and qualitative contribution in this context.
