Course Objective

The aim of this course is to introduce the intersection points of cinema and architecture. There will be film screenings in this course. The course schedule may focus on architectural fiction in cinema, fictive space in architecture, cinema and architecture within the context of design, or may specifically focus on a sub-genre such as anime, science-fiction, fantastic, and experimental cinema.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

1. In online education format, midterm and final exam will be processed as homework submission. The format of the homework will be announced in the class.
2. Class participation will be evaluated through students' active participation in class discussions. Throughout the term, student participation will depend on; 1) The ability of student's discussions during film screening and analysis via the texts given prior to screenings and subjects handled in the course, 2) The quality of student's responses to the questions during the course, 3) Student's overall contribution throughout the course to create a positive learning environment. In online education, same assessments are relevant for asynchronous learning format. In such case, students are expected to write their responses and join discussions on the Forum panel of the course's digital module.
3. In written assignments, students are obliged to give credit for all sentences that they cite. Plagiarism is not allowed.
4. If students need to refer to online sources, they are not allowed to use blogs and anonymous websites; they can only use official web sites and scholarly e-journals as references.

1. It is highly recommended to have attended the course MIM 4511 Architectural Theory and Criticism, as this course is based on the course MIM 4511.
2. It is not considered as a valid excuse to be absent in class for late submissions of assignments.
3. Late submissions will be subject to a different evaluation.
4. All kinds of plagiarism will result in a disciplinary action.
