Course Objective

Purpose of this course is introduce to emphasize the importance, hydrogeological and hydrogeochemical evaluated in terms of identification, encountered in the light of the key environmental issues of national and international legislation to teach of great importance in the hydrologic system of wetlands.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Be able to describe the hydrological system
2   Be able to interpret the hydrogeological and hydrogeochemical of Wetlands in the hydrological system
3   Be able to map from soil and hydrogeochemical properties
4   Be able to examine environmental problems with ground-surface water interaction
5   Be able to create wetland plannings with current legislation

1 What are wetlands European Water Framework Directive and the Ramsar Convention on wetlands
2 Classification of wetlands, identification methods and key issues
3 The formation of the Delta environment and its geology
4 Wetlands soil
5 Hydrogeology of wetlands, interpret drawings of the water table in wetlands.
6 Recharge and discharge of groundwater in wetlands dynamics
7 Midterm Exam
8 Hydrogeochemistry of wetlands
9 Sea water intrusion in the coastal wetlands and salinization problems
10 Major-minor ion distribution mapping, interpretation and wetland inventory
11 Hydrogeological Properties of wetlands in Türkiye
12 Midterm Exam
13 Hydrogeochemical properties of wetlands in Türkiye
14 Türkiye's wetlands regulations and wetland management plan

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The course is taught in a lecture, laboratory, and homework presentation and discussion format. Students are expected to prepare a homework report as well.
