Course Objective

The aims of the course is to introduce the frequently met contaminants in soils, to
teach the soil properties, to describe the behavior of contaminants in soil,
understanding the major mechanisms of soil remediation technologies, learning the
factors affecting the remediation of soil -such as initial concentration, type of
contaminant, type of soil, and contamination age- and determination of the extend of
contamination bu on site analysis and detections.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Can list and categorize major soil contaminants, can describe the presence of pollution.
2   Can explain the soil properties and behavior of contaminants in soil matrix.
3   Can select and decide about the necessary remediation method for a contaminated soil, can associate the soil, contaminant features with remediation techniques.
4   Can compare the remediation techniques for a case of contamination, can make experiments in lab-scale to obtain quick findings
5   Can plan and design the components of a soil remediation system
6   Can explain and defend the selected remediation technique
