Course Objective

This course explores various leadership models from both a theoretical and practical perspective with two main objectives. First, the course aims to provide students with an understanding of the major leadership theories. Students are expected to understand the theoretical basis of each leadership model, their strengths and weaknesses, and the application of each model to practice in organizations. To enable this, students will have the opportunity to work on case studies that pertain to various leadership models that will be studied throughout the course. Second, this course also aims to enable students to assess and work on their personal leadership styles through a series of leadership questionnaires and classroom activities. Ultimately, having taken this course, students will have developed a comprehensive understanding of leadership concepts and their applications to help develop their own leadership.

Leadership: Theory and Practice by Peter G. Northouse, 8 th edition, Sage Publications
Supplemental readings, case studies and leadership assessment exercises will also be assigned with prior notice.

Assessment Criteria

1. Midterm and Final Exam: The exam will be based on the textbook and lecture materials.
2. Term project: Students will work in groups (or individually depending on the class size) to analyze a Leadership case assigned by the instructor. Grading will be based on a written report and presentation.

The rubric for the term project is as follows. The term project will be evaluated based on the following criteria/elements, and the weight of each element/criteria in term project grade is shown in paranthesis:

1. Application of Specific Leadership Model/Theory (20 points): Students must demonstrate a comprehensive and insightful application of the specific leadership model or theory to the case. They must show deep understanding of the model or theory.
2. Answers to Case Questions (40 points): The students answers must be comprehensive, insightful, and demonstrate a thorough understanding of the case and application of relevant concepts. All questions must be answered fully.
3. Critical Thinking and Analysis (20 points): Students must show significant critical thinking and analysis, identifying underlying issues and making connections to the leadership model or theory, and proposing creative solutions.
4. Coherence and Organization (10 points): The written report must be well-organized, logical, and coherent, making it easy to follow the analysis and arguments.
5. Presentation Skills (10 points): The presentation must be engaging, well-organized, and effectively communicate key points, with appropriate use of visuals and time.
