Course Objective

This course aims to analyze the American South and its specific socio-cultural structure and political and historical period in various literary texts like novels, strories, plays in American Literature.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To analyze the American South with its history of slavery and the Civil War and with its socio-cultural structure and the ways this structure is presented in American Literature in various literary texts
2   To discuss the socio-cultural characteristics and the structure of the antebellum South and the post Civil War period in American South
3   To analyze the Southern Renaissance which is a significant literary period of the American South and which has a significant place in American Literature
4   To analyze the place and effect of the American South and its specific socio-cultural structure in the American Literature
5   To make academic research and write essays with a critical mind on the American South with its historical, cultural and literary characteristics and the way these characteristics are presented in American Literature
