Course Objective

The aim of this course is to teach Turkish Language and Literature teacher candidates the main artists and poetry trends in Turkish poetry of the Tanzimat period and to teach the place of the poets of this period in Turkish poetry.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to comprehend and explain the social, political and cultural developments that played a role in the development of Tanzimat period literature
2   To be able to comprehend and explain Tanzimat period poetry conceptions, characteristics and artists
3   To be able to comprehend, compare and analyze Western literary currents affecting Turkish poetry in the Tanzimat period
4   To be able to determine the positions of the poets of this period in Turkish poetry, to be able to analyze their poems and to be able to determine their relations with the poems of other poets of this period.
5   To be able to compare the poems of the poets of the period in terms of theme, tendency, style and literary movements
6   To be able to apply literary theories and literary arts on texts

Participation in class discussions and assignments given in timely delivery of appropriate criteria will be evaluated within the scope of the final exam.

Assessment Criteria

The evaluation of the course will be based on midterm and final exams. Apart from this, there are no special evaluation criteria.

Students should come to class prepared for the related topics specified in the syllabus. Attendance to 70% of the lectures is compulsory.
