Course Objective

1- Diagnosis and differential diagnosis of the patient who presents to the healthcare institution with symptoms and findings concerning emergency medicine,
To provide knowledge and skills regarding the management and guidance of treatment.
2- To ensure the acquisition of knowledge and skills on forensic case management and the medicolegal aspect of death.
3- To provide knowledge and skills on the recognition of cardiopulmonary arrest in adults, children and newborns and the application of basic and advanced life support.
4- To provide knowledge about intensive care units, admission criteria, patient monitoring, recognition of patients with sepsis, diagnosis and treatment of brain death and acute respiratory failure.
5- To ensure the acquisition of knowledge and skills in diagnosing the traumatized patient, ensuring stabilization, and managing and directing the treatment.
6- To provide knowledge about the diagnosis, treatment, management and follow-up of the poisoned patient.
7- Knowing the etiology of cyanosis and providing information about diagnosis and treatment methods.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Being able to explain the general rules of approach to a trauma patient, distinguishing the findings, performing a physical examination, evaluating the results of diagnostic examinations, defining priorities in their management, and being able to implement the steps to be taken in the stabilization of the patient in order of importance.
2   Ability to discuss fluid resuscitation goals in a patient with shock and organize the treatments that can be applied
3   Ability to understand basic monitoring principles in intensive care patients, bring together general treatment principles, discuss mechanical ventilation indications, explain pathologies associated with SIRS, sepsis and multiple organ failure, and recognize brain death
4   To be able to perform forensic examination of the dead, to define forensic autopsy and physician responsibilities in the evaluation of the medicolegal aspect of death, to define ethical and legal responsibilities in forensic cases
5   Ability to recognize a poisoned patient, distinguish it from other diseases and conditions, plan its treatment, evaluate and analyze it
6   Ability to recognize cardiopulmonary arrest and its immediate aftermath, and apply basic and advanced life support.
7   Ability to diagnose a patient presenting with cyanosis, determine its causes, differential diagnoses, and organize its treatment

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

The student's end of block grade:
25% of the end of task process evaluation grade average,
25% of the NÖKS grade,
0% of the interim achievement assessment,
50% of the theoretical exam grade
is calculated out of 100 (one hundred).

Assessment Criteria

In order for students to take the exam:
To have attended at least 70% of the theoretical activities,
It is necessary to have participated in at least 80% of the block applications and / or laboratory studies.
The application, laboratory and similar in-year studies related to the block must be done within the given periods.
Students who have not fulfilled all of these conditions must repeat that block or internship.

In order for the student's exam results to be valid:
In the end-of-task process evaluation, 60 (sixty) and above grades must be obtained from at least 70% of the number of tasks in the relevant block. Otherwise, the block is repeated.
In order to calculate the end of block grade; The average of the end of task evaluation must be 60 (sixty), and each of the NÖKS and theoretical evaluation grades must be at least 55 (fifty-five).
To be successful in the block, the block success grade must be at least 60 (sixty).
The student's end of block grade:
25% of the end of task process evaluation grade average,
25% of the NÖKS grade,
0% of the interim achievement assessment,
50% of the theoretical exam grade
