Course Objective

Species and communities cannot be isolated from their habitats. Natural reserves aims to conserve habitats that destroyed by anthropogenical pollutants by controlling non-degraded fields. During this course, conservation statuses and management of nature reserves will be discussed.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students know conservation areas with official status.
2   Students can interpret the status of biodiversity on protected areas.
3   Students know ideal management and protection methods in these areas.
4   Students are able to express Türkiye's obligations on protected areas according to international agreements.
5   Students can identify problems in natural protected areas and close around them.

7 Ecosystems: Forest Ecosystems, Step ecosystems, Wetland Ecosystems, Coastal and Marine Ecosystems and Mountain Ecosystems.
8 Overview
9 Biological safety
10 Threats to biodiversity.
11 Taken precautions for conservation of biological diversity.
12 Conservation of species and Area Protection.
13 The Protection of Areas (in-situ)in Türkiye.
14 Ex-situ Conservation, Politics, Development Plans, Strategy, Legal and Institutional Framework.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The course is taught in a lecture, class presentation and discussion format. Besides the taught lecture, group presentations are to be prepared by the groups assigned and presented in a discussion session. In some weeks of the course, results of the homework given previously are discussed.
