Course Objective

In order to expand international cooperation in the field of Biological Diversity, The Republic of Azerbaijan joined the UN Convention "on Biological Diversity" in 2000.
After the Republic of Azerbaijan signed the convention protection of biodiversity , presented in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, a number of measures were taken to implement the requirements of this convention.
In Azerbaijan, many species of plants and animals are endemic, which does not exist anywhere in the world except in the country. This rich biological diversity is endangered by many impacts. According to the Red Book, hundreds of species of plants and animals in the Republic of Azerbaijan are under threat and have different protection status.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To join all environmental processes, international conventions, other inter-country and regional agreements aimed at protecting biodiversity
2   Identification of important components of biodiversity and development and implementation of additional measures for their protection
3   Compilation and renewal of red and green kits of flora and fauna of countries for monitoring the state of biodiversity
4   Creation of appropriate conditions for the restoration of plants and animals with different protection status in specially protected areas
5   Ensuring the protection of the gene pool of rare and endangered species of plants and animals and creating conditions for their keeping in specially protected natural areas, Botanical Gardens, zoological parks
6   Forecasting of the threat to biodiversity and natural plant and animal species that may be affected in the first place as a result of this threat
7   Creation of new national parks to protect biodiversity
8   When performing laboratory work, the student must write the necessary notes, make drawings and answer questions on each topic in the process of independent work.
