Course Objective

This class aims to discuss and inform the students -by mentioning the prominent people and institutions- about the stages of the development of Turkish painting from a Western point of view, during the period between the enunciation of Tanzimat until the 1980s.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The students taking this class, are expected to have a renewed interest in studies about the recent history, comprehend the fact that historical data is a field of study that nourishes the willpower of synthesis.
2   To understand Turkish painting as a formation of contemporary art and a phenomenon of visual culture
3   To identify Turkish art with the historical, social and cultural data about the development of Turkish society.
4   Comprehend that recent history is a field of information that characterizes itself within the course of becoming individual and original.
5   Know that the relationship between form and meaning that comes up in their own work, is to be based within the frame of tradition in art applications, with a knowledge of art history, and within the context of intellectual and sociological data.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Verbal and written practices of production of meaning, by the help of visual presentations and based on discussion sessions, will be utilized as the method of teaching.

Attendance in the class is important. Students have to attend 70% of the classes. Students who do not attend enough classes can not attend the final exam.
