Course Objective

The Materials and Creative Process Workshop Course is a field of study that aims to develop students' creative thinking, increase their artistic skills and explore artistic expression by using different materials. In addition, in these courses, students are given a wide range of freedom and are encouraged to explore their own creative processes. This syllabus is a general guide for a free studio course that gives students the opportunity to manage and develop their own creative process.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To have a wide knowledge about the properties, usage areas and manipulation techniques of different materials.
2   Developing creative thinking skills. To increase the ability to overcome the difficulties encountered and to produce creative solutions.
3   Learning the basic concepts of art and design. Developing the ability to evaluate works of art and design from a critical point of view.
4   To be able to produce artistic works using different materials, techniques and manual skills.
5   Focusing on the relationships between painting, drawing, installation and three-dimensional works and the use of materials with other art disciplines.
6   To develop the ability to draw inspiration from art history, contemporary art and other artistic fields.
7   Develop the ability to organise all processes and project management skills in individual work.
8   The ability to exhibit and present artistic artefacts effectively and the ability to explain their work and effectively communicate their artistic expression to others.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Introduction to the course: Giving preliminary information about the historical process in the course. An overview of 19th Century Art within the framework of basic concepts.
2 19th Century Modernism and its reflections on other art disciplines, especially Painting.
3 Examination of 20th century art movements. (Fauvism, Cubism, Futurism, Constructivism and Manifestos)
4 Re-expression and creative process in the context of New Media Arts and Hybrid Art.
5 Examination of art media such as Happening, Installation, Ready made, Body Art, Feminist Art and Land art through the art-material relationship.
