Course Objective

The aim of this course is to teach the students the methods, techniques and the
production subjects of Kütahya and Iznik Tiles, which are of great importance and have
a significant place in Tile Art; and also to teach the reproductions of the tiles made
in these centres.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1.define the Iznik and Kütahya Tiles,
2   2.identify the formation types used in Iznik and Kütahya,
3   3.make designs and form applications according to the characteristic features of Iznik and Kütahya,
4   4.mass-produce the project they have undertaken,
5   5.apply their projects and make them ready for presentation by using the researches and drawings.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

1- Lessons
The instructor instructs the students about Iznik and Kütahya Tiles. He wants them to
research for the information and designs about the subject.
2- Revision and Discussions
At the beginning of each lesson, the researches made by the students, the required
forms and designs are revised. Then whether they are suitable for the period is
discussed.
3- Applications
In the production process, students make use of the plaster-mould, casting, tile
technology, decoration techniques and computer-aided lessons. Instructors will
encourage the students at every stage of application.

Assessment Criteria

Because of being both theoretical and practical course, the students will prepare a
file including lecture notes and their designs and applications. The evaluation will be
made through the student s presentation.
The grading will be determined by
1- the student s attendance,
2- the quality of the student s answers to the questions asked by the instructor and
the quality of the project work in class,
3- the student s support to have an effective learning atmosphere.

The project will be evaluated out of 100. The student s project, presentation and file
will be taken into consideration in this evaluation.

Course Policies and Rules

1- 80 % attendance is compulsory.
2- Every plagiarism attempt and act will be considered as a disciplinary action.
3- It will not be considered as an excuse if assignments and projects are submitted
late because of not attending the lesson.
4- When submitted late, the project will be evaluated one less letter grade for each
day.
