Course Objective

It is aimed to design decors and costumes of various plays and presentations in the light of new trends on contemporary theater, in addition, make a 2nd class stage design student realize his/her project within frame of stage and increase interdisciplinary studies.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Reach the competence of being able to put the theoretical knowledge he gained in his/her field on the process starting from the Ancient Greek plays in performing arts field into practice
2   Have a perspective where he/she is able to see technical difficulties may that appear during the process starting with his/her project's production stage and going on until the point where project meets the audience and resolve these technical difficulties
3   Be able to use the time given on in-class studies on design projects effectively, be able to show diversity in presentation and practice methods
4   Be able to develop himself/herself by observing the developments on science-art-design-technology and modern subjects on chosen Ottoman play or ancient play
5   Be able to develop appropriate presentation techniques within the scope of the project

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

1 Lessons
The lecturer directs stage design students to make appropriate analyses within the scope of the project they have chosen with regard to contemporary theater techniques and directs them to produce solutions to problems that may arise during practice. He/she asks from students to prepare and present their designs about the project visually or in written (report, stage management report, costume and decor sketches describing the design process)
2 Revision Sessions and Class Discussions
While creating decor and costume sketches on design stage, it is determined with regard to basic interpretation of the play with the help of dramaturgic analyses, resolutions to technical problems that may appear during practice and related discussions and suggestions are determined by the lecturer at the end of each lesson and homework are assigned, students' opinions are encouraged.
3 Practices
During the process of passing to practice stage from the design stage, students will be informed about how to prepare the information they gained on other technical lessons for presentation and how the students will use this information with a model and costume.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

During the lesson evaluation stage, grading will be based on first of all creativity on designs, realization ratio while passing to production stage from design stage, harmony of chosen materials and products, appropriateness of the technique and the interpretation of the play that came out and its applicability on production.

Assessment Criteria

1.Score obtained from student participation,
2.Participation in lessons.
3.The quality of the third student's lecture, questions and answers and in-class project work
4. It will depend on the student's contribution to the creation of a positive learning environment.

Course Policies and Rules

1. Attendance of 80% of the course is required.
2. Any plagiarism attempt will result in disciplinary action.
3. Not attending the course will not be considered as a valid excuse for late submission of homework assignments and projects.
4. There will be a drop in points equivalent to a letter grade for each day of delay in project deliveries.
