General Description

History

Department of Radiopharmaceutical Sciences was established in 2011 as a multidisiplinary department of Institute of Health Science by approval of The Council of Higher Education. Academic personel of the program are basic (Biochemistry and Pharmacology), clinical( Nuclear Medicine) and science (Nuclear Physic) departments. Program duration is 2 years (1 year is course, 1 Year is thesis study) . Program language is Turkish.

Medical faculty graduates, pharmacy faculty graduates, physics undergraduate graduates, chemistry undergraduate graduates, biochemistry undergraduate graduates, biology undergraduate graduates, chemical engineering graduates can apply to the program..

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Second Cycle (Masters Degree) Programme with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 54 ECTS), a seminar (2 ECTS), and field study (4 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS) credits. İn total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades.

Profile of the Programme

Radiopharmaceutical Sciences Msc programme will started education in 2013.The objectives of this programme are obtaining knowledge about radioactivity, radiopharmaceutical imaging and therapy, knowledge and skills on research methods in radiopharmaceuticals.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Knows the principles of radiation mesaurment and scanning equipments, of Geiger Muller, İyon chamber, Scintillation dedectors, Beta counter, Gamma cameras and PET cameras equipments and uses them
2   Knows principles of radiation safety and protecting rules and informs the people
3   Knows the production methods of radionuclides and radiopharmaceuticals and knows the usage of radionuclides and radiopharmaceuticals in nuclear medicine,
4   Knows the calculation of preparation and dispensing of radiopharmaceuticals and knows the application of radiopharmaceuticals.
5   Knows the principles of Good Manufacturing Practice and Good Radiopharmacy Practice, Preparation of radiopharmaceuticals for injection involves adherence to regulations on radiation protection as well as to appropriate rules of working under aseptic conditions,
6   : Knows and applies appropriate quality control methods for the radiopharmaceuticals
7   Knows and evaulates, mechanism of biodistribution and excretion of radiopharmaceuticals on the body
8   Knows the PET radiopharmaceuticals for diagnosis and therapy
9   Knows the labeling methods of the blood cels (red blood cells, white blood cells and thrombosits)
10   Knows applications the quality control techniques for radiopharmaceuticals before administered to the patients
11   Gains the skills for the planning and implementation of scientific researches about radiopharmaceuticals
12   Gains the skills in developing new radiopharmaceuticals (approaches and trends)
13   Knows the steps in developing new radiopharmaceuticals and applies on the animal models
14   :Knows the national and the international legislations on radiopharmaceuticals
15   Knows other imaging systems like flouresans and optical imaging
16   : Knows interaction between drugs- radiopharmaceuticals.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Assessment of students was done with 2 midterm examination, 1 final examination, homework and project studies. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades.
