General Description

History

The aim of the health institutions management program is to train mid-level managers who are well-educated in the health sector and hospitals and who want to make a professional career. Health institutions management has been accepting students since 2005 within the body of DEU Izmir Vocational School. Students are admitted to the program with the YKS exam.

Vocational high school diploma or high school diploma, placement through a nation-wide Student Selection Examination.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management.

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK) .
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in Graduate Transfer Guide and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing .

Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The students must complete 2 years of study acquiring 120 (ECTS) credits. This degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum, compulsory 40 days of internship and have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00/4.00 and no failing grades.

Profile of the Programme

The aim of Health Institution Management is to train qualified intermediate workforce for the health organizations both public and private sector. 30 days of internship program is compulsory to utilize the theoretical knowledge of students in practical work. Graduates of the program have the opportunity to transfer to undergraduate programs of related fields and get a four-year bachelor's degree. Vertical transfer is possible upon success in Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS) conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM).

1   Analyze and evaluate the functioning of the hospitals, other health care organizations and health system with Economics, business administration, accounting, law and finance full fills the requirements of knowledge.
2   Analyze and evaluate the administrative, financial, medical and technical process of health care organizations.
3   Able to understand structure of hospital and other health care organizations, as well as design and analyze.
4   Have information for fundamental management function as planning, recommendation, coordination and inspection in health care organizations.
5   Able to understand Turkish and other Health Systems, Health Policy and Health Planning. Analyze and evaluate health care sector with economic and financial dimensions. Able to compare different health care systems with others.
6   Able to understand dimensions of domestic and national health care sector as well as global and international relation.
7   Informed about medical terminology, epidemiology, occupational health and safety, environmental health, public health.
8   Have the ability to think analytically, able to apply modern management style and technologies to health care organizations.
9   Has leadership qualities, communicates with other health care professionals, prone to teamwork.
10   Informed Health management profession's responsibilities such as social, legal and ethics responsibilities.
11   Follow the actual improvement and literature about health management and able to improve yourself about occupation.
12   Able to use Turkish correctly (accordance with the rules) in formal and informal communications.
13   Able to documentation and classification of documents.
14   Informed quality management systems and accreditation in health care organizations

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates especially employed as a stage manager in hospitals and other private and public health care organizations.

Access to Further Studies

The students who will graduate from Health Institutions Management programme will be able to do a graduate degree in Health Management or any other department that accepts graduates from this department that they get enough points at vertical passage exam (DGS) organised by OSYM.
