General Description

History

Department of Public Health Nursing was established with the approval of Senate within the body of FHS on September 26, 1994. The PG program of Public Health Nursing started education in 1999. The program lasts for totally 2 years; 1 year for courses and 1 year for thesis. The language of the program is Turkish.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Second Cycle (Masters Degree) Programme with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 54 ECTS), a seminar (2 ECTS), and field study (4 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS) credits. İn total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades.

Profile of the Programme

This program aims to enable the student to acquire deep knowledge in the field of public health nursing, convey the knowledge of public health nursing to the field of application, access to information in the field, assess the information in a critical way and make a contribution to the field by conducting scientific research. The program involves 3-4 compulsory courses and elective courses in different fields of nursing and health sciences each term. Students are also allowed to select courses from other departments and institutions or universities.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Updates undergraduate level qualifications in line with the field of expertise, follows and uses technological developments, develops and deepens expertise knowledge.
2   Uses the theoretical and practical knowledge at the level of expertise acquired in the field in nursing care and shares with the team.
3   Examines interdisciplinary social and professional relationships and increases cooperation to strengthen these relationships.
4   Plans scientific researches under the guidance of a advisor, analyses them using appropriate statistical methods and publishes and shares the results in scientific journals at national and international level.
5   Evaluates research and evidence, transfers to practice and conducts research that will create evidence.
6   Uses information technologies, technical equipment, devices and tools required by the field at an advanced level.
7   Solves complex problems specific to the field with problem solving skills based on lifelong learning principles and produces solutions.
8   Evaluates and contributes to strategies and policies related to health.
9   Knows the importance of ethical principles and ethical committees in nursing, acts in accordance with the principles of ethical behaviour in professional and scientific studies.
10   Communicates verbally and in writing using a foreign language at least at the level of European Language Portfolio B2.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

The graduates of this program could work in the field of Public Health Nursing in the public and private sector as specialist nurses.

Access to Further Studies

The graduates could apply to the doctoral programs of public health nursing.

The program requires students to receive 2 courses in the fall term, 1 course in the spring term from their own department and 2 courses from the other department each term. All other courses are elective.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

In the courses, the students are assessed through their success in 1 midterm and 1 final examination, as well as homeworks and projects. They are required to score at least 75 in order to be successful in the course.

Graduation Requirements

Students are required to complete 120 ECTS credits in order to graduate. They should complete their courses successfully with 60 ECTS. They should have an average grade of at least 2.50 - 4.00 in order to be successful in each course. Besides, they should complete the thesis project and present it in the face of the jury to be accepted.
They are required to receive course that corresponds to a total of 60 ECTS (2 ECTS for seminar and 4 ECTS for profession) and complete the thesis that corresponds to 60 ECTS. They should complete 120 ECTS credits in total.
