Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide prospective teachers with a foundational understanding of special education, including its basic concepts, the characteristics of individuals with special needs, and the historical and legal development of special education services.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Explains the basic concepts and principles of special education.
2   Identifies different types of disabilities and describes their characteristics.
3   Analyzes the educational needs of individuals with special needs.
4   Explains the methods, techniques, and tools used in special education.
5   Explains the importance of collaboration between families and professionals in special education.

5 Children with speech and language disorders and their characteristics
6 Children with physical disabilities and chronic illnesses and their characteristics
7 Children with intellectual disabilities and their characteristics
8 General review, course evaluation, midterm exam
9 Children with learning disabilities and their characteristics
10 Children with adjustment and behavioral disorders and their characteristics
11 Children with autism spectrum disorder and their characteristics
12 Gifted and talented children and their characteristics
13 Children with severe disabilities and their characteristics
14 Educational opportunities, existing institutions, and functioning for children who require special education
