Course Objective

The aim of this course is to introduce the fundamental theories and developmental stages of language and communication, as well as to examine variations that may occur in individuals with special needs. The course aims to equip teacher candidates with the skills to assess, support, and plan interventions for students' language and communication development. Additionally, it aims to provide basic knowledge of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Explains the basic stages of language and communication development.
2   Identifies and differentiates developmental language disorders.
3   Recognizes and utilizes communication assessment tools.
4   Develops appropriate instructional strategies to support students' language and communication skills.
5   Explains the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems.
6   Designs support programs for language and communication development.
7   Plans intervention processes in collaboration with families and professionals.
