Course Objective

This course explores the intersections of gender, ideology, and power in translation studies, focusing on how translations maintain or challenge power relations. It examines feminist translation theories, activist translation, translation of non-normative identities, and the role of inclusive language in shaping social discourse.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Analyze the relationship between gender, ideology, and power in translation.
2   Establish meaningful, dialogical connections between the fields of translation, feminist, gender, non-normative identities, and race and ethnic studies.
3   Developing a critical approach for addressing marginalization of persons and discourses through translation and analyzing the methods of subversion.
4   Develop a critical, ethical framework for reading translations through the lens of gender and race.
5   Design and conduct a research project.
