Course Objective

This course explores the relationship between hermeneutics and translation, focusing on critical, legal, theological and historical hermeneutics. Students will analyze how hermeneutical perspectives influence translation practices and how hermeneutics contributes to social sciences discourse, textual analysis and translation criticism.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Learn to differentiate the methodologies of understanding and interpreting in social sciences and making explanations in natural sciences.
2   Relate translational hermeneutics with critical and philosophical hermeneutics.
3   Relate the act of translation with hermeneutics of action.
4   Evaluate the translation of literary texts and texts on social sciences from the viewpoint of hermeneutical approach.
5   Inquire the value of the act of translation as a model of ethical action.
