Course Objective

This course introduces students to the fundamental concepts and research methods of social and behavioral sciences, examining how individuals perceive, interpret, and respond to their social world. By exploring topics such as social cognition, perception, the self, conformity, group processes, persuasion, prosocial behavior, aggression, and prejudice, students will gain a deeper understanding of how social and cultural contexts shape decision-making and behavior. The course also addresses broader influences on human interaction through discussions on economic systems, globalization, population, and urbanization, equipping students with a holistic perspective on how societal factors drive individual and collective actions.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Apply foundational research methods in social and behavioral sciences to critically analyze human thought and behavior within diverse social contexts.
2   2. Assess how social cognition and perception influence people s judgments, decisions, and interpersonal interactions.
3   3. Evaluate the effects of cognitive dissonance, persuasion, conformity, and obedience on social influence and group dynamics.
4   4. Examine the factors contributing to prosocial behavior, aggression, and prejudice and propose strategies to foster positive social change.
5   5. Analyze the impact of culture, economic systems, globalization, and urbanization on social structures and collective behavior.
