Course Objective

The course focuses on the phenomenon of disaster, which is one of the basic realities of people in the world. In this context, the main purpose of the course is to analyze and discuss the historical and social dimensions of disasters. Thus, students who take the course will approach disasters from a broad social perspective.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Learning the concepts of disaster, society, social structure
2   Analysing the social structures in which disasters occurred in the historical process
3   Explain the relationship between social institutions and urbanization dynamics and disasters
4   To be able to explain sociologically the role of public administration and local governments in disaster preparation and aftermath
5   To be able to explain the role of civil society organizations sociologically in disaster preparation and aftermath
