Course Objective

As a subdiscipline of sociology, Digital Sociology examines the subtopics of technology and the digitalization of social life. In other words, it looks at the effects of technology from a sociological perspective. The rapid rise of mass media, internet usage, and digitalization have brought new areas of discussion. A wide range of topics emerge, from education to identity debates, and from law to ethics. This course will explore how families, adolescents, children, and women are affected by digitalization within the framework of current debates in the emerging field of Digital Sociology.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Acquire basic knowledge about the field of digital sociology.
2   Learn theories about technology and social life.
3   Gain a critical perspective on the field.
4   Be able to discuss the effects of digitalization on women, children, adolescents, and families.
5   Apply research methods and techniques to topics in digital sociology by gaining a sociological perspective.
