Course Objective

This course aims to teach mindfulness and body-mind (body awareness) approaches in geriatric physiotherapy. Mindfulness-based exercises will be explored to support movement, balance, posture, and psychological well-being in older adults.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Explain the fundamental principles of mindfulness-based approaches, their relationship with physiotherapy, and their effects on the aging process.
2   2. Describe the role of mental focus and awareness in exercise and apply them in geriatric physiotherapy practices.
3   3. Identify, apply, and evaluate the use of mindfulness techniques in geriatric rehabilitation.
4   4. Implement mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), breathing, and postural awareness techniques in older adults.
5   5. Integrate body-mind approaches such as Pilates, the Alexander Technique, the Feldenkrais Method, and dance therapy into geriatric physiotherapy.
6   6. Apply mindfulness and body-mind approaches in clinical practice in accordance with scientific and ethical principles.
