Course Objective

The aim of this course is to instruct the students the techniques used for making machine-woven carpets, and to have them make machine-woven carpet designs suitable for production, location or style.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Having basic theoretical knowledge about Machine Carpet production techniques
2   recognize the carpets produced by these techniques,
3   distinguish the advantages and disadvantages of the carpet making techniques in accordance with both production and the user,
4   elicit the trends of current home decoration and interpret them,
5   make carpet designs suitable for a certain location or style.

2 Location choosing for carpet designs. General information about the machine-woven carpet techniques and dispatching the homeworks.
3 Discussing the data related to the projects.
4 Discussing the data related to the projects and beginning the sketch works.

6 The weaving technique for Wilton machine-woven carpets; Going on with the project.
7 The weaving technique for Axminster machine-woven carpets; Going on with the project.
8 The producing tehnique for Autotuft and Handtuft carpets; Going on with the project.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

During the course, the instructor provides general information about machine-made rug production techniques at the beginning of the course. Students are given homework to explore these techniques in detail. Following the research, students are asked to submit their assignments.

For the design project, the collections and trends of leading companies in the industry are analyzed. Then, students are asked to produce three designs from the companies' collections, ready for reweaving based on their own interpretation. This activity helps students learn the technical and design knowledge of how a machine-made rug is designed.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

Course evaluation is based on 50% project, 20% course attendance, 30% homework and presentation grades.

Assessment Criteria

For homework and projects, the students are supposed to edit their studies by reaching a lot of resources as much as possible and show that they have comprehend the subject and are able to explain it to others.
The avaluation of the project is

Attendance is evaluated in accordance with the instructor's opinion by considering the student's attendance and in-class performance.

Language of Instruction

Course Policies and Rules

80% attendance is compulsory.
The students will be in class at the time of the lesson.
The students are suppose to represent their homework at the scheduled time, late performances will affect the grade.
The projects are tobe submitted on the shedulled day, late submissions are not evaluated.
