Course Objective

Conceptual approaches in contemporary clothing fashion will focus on the clothing-body relationship through the social value system and the meaning and functionality of clothing will be examined. Conceptual contents will be examined in the collections of fashion designers and concepts will be created. In this direction, they are expected to reflect their conceptual ideas in innovative design and creative application works with artistic expressions.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Gaining knowledge by examining conceptual approaches in contemporary clothing fashion.
2   Gaining a creative, innovative and aesthetic design approach with conceptual content in clothing design.
3   To be able to develop techniques to express conceptual ideas through artistic expressions during the application process.
4   Gaining the ability to produce original clothing designs with a conceptual approach and innovative perspective.
5   Ability to turn the design into a product and present it.

1 Introduction and giving information about the course. Application studies.
2 Conceptual approaches in contemporary clothing fashion are examined through the meaning and functionality of clothing. Application studies.
3 Analysis of conceptual contents in fashion designers' collections. Student presentations.
4 Examining conceptual contents, determining the project concept and impact points. Student presentations and evaluation.
5 Design sketches.
6 Model development and sketch studies.
7 Construction studies with mold-draping and different techniques.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Students are directed to research on conceptual approaches in clothing fashion by the instructor, who informs them about the course topics through bibliography. Design sketches are created for their conceptual ideas. During the application process, literature and visual resource research is conducted on techniques and materials, and creative experimental application studies are carried out.

Assessment Criteria

From a creative and innovative approach in line with conceptual ideas in clothing designs.
From the correct association of construction, material and application technique suitable for the clothing form.
Scoring is done on projects, homework etc. files.

1. Attendance at 80% of the class is mandatory.
2. Any attempt at plagiarism and actual acts will result in disciplinary action.
3. Not attending class will not be considered a valid excuse for late submission of homework and projects.
