Course Objective

The objective of this course is to provide an in-depth examination of the concepts of migration and asylum, to analyze the academic and social needs of individuals with special needs in the context of migration and crisis, and to identify the essential competencies and considerations required for effectively working with such individuals under these circumstances

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understands social categories related to migration such as refugee, migrant, and asylum seeker.
2   Recognizes the distinctions between these social categories.
3   Identifies the potential barriers and opportunities arising from the intersections of migration-related and special needs-related social categories.
4   Understands the academic and social needs of individuals with special needs in migration and crisis contexts.
5   Recognizes the essential factors necessary for working with individuals with special needs in situations of migration and crisis.

In addition to the midterm and final examinations, presentations, research assignments, article summaries and discussions, as well as class participation, are included among the assessment criteria.

Topics will be covered in class and discussions will be initiated when necessary. Students are expected to come to class prepared by reading the assigned materials in advance and to actively participate in classroom interactions. They are also required to prepare and present topics assigned to them. Furthermore, students are responsible for completing any additional tasks related to the course as assigned.
