Course Objective

The purpose of this course is to examine the linguistic, literary and cultural features of Uyghur texts among Old Turkish texts. Uyghur is a language represented by written works belonging to the Uyghur State, which is an important period of the Turkish language, and Uyghur texts will be analyzed through this course. Students will analyze the linguistic features, writing systems and literary values of Uyghur texts and aim to understand the cultural, social and religious elements of Old Turkish literature in this period.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Describes the basic features of the Uyghur Turkish language and its writing system.
2   2. Evaluates the historical, cultural and literary context of Uyghur Turkish texts.
3   3. Can analyze the grammatical structures of Uyghur Turkish texts.
4   4. Discusses the role and importance of Uyghur Turkish texts among Old Turkish texts.
5   5. Analyzes literary genres, thematic structures and cultural elements from Uyghur Turkish texts.
6   6. Interprets the religious, philosophical and cultural elements of Uyghur Turkish written works.
7   7. Gains competence in translating and interpreting Uyghur Turkish texts into modern Turkish.
8   8. Discusses the similarities and differences between Uyghur Turkish texts and other Old Turkish texts.
