Course Objective

Course ObjectiveThis course aims to examine travelogues as source material in cultural anthropology and folklore studies. The focus will be on analyzing elements such as folk beliefs, rites of passage, everyday practices, celebrations, and folk medicine as reflected in travel accounts. The course will also critically address the historical contexts, purposes, power dynamics, and publication practices of travel writing.

3   Analyzes the historical and ideological contexts of travel writing.
4   Compares travelogues written about different geographies.
