Course Objective

The aim of this course is to examine the historical development of language and literature teaching in Turkey, to analyze the educational policies, curricula and teaching methods applied in different periods. It is aimed to evaluate the evolution of language and literature teaching from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic and to provide students with the ability to comprehend the basic changes and transformations in this field.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Explains the historical process of language and literature teaching in Turkey.
2   2. Evaluates the changes in the understanding of teaching literature from the Ottoman Empire to the present.
3   3. Compares the teaching methods used in different periods.
4   4. Analyzes the effects of educational policies on language and literature teaching.
5   5. Examines the literature teaching programs applied in old educational institutions.
6   6. Discusses the reflections of the reforms made in the Republican Period on language and literature teaching.
7   7. Evaluates the historical origins of today's understanding of language and literature teaching.
8   8. Interpret academic research on language and literature teaching in Turkey.
