Course Objective

The purpose of this course is to develop advanced rules of teaching Ottoman Turkish, reading and comprehension skills, to provide students with the competence to analyze texts written in Ottoman Turkish, and to increase students' skills in teaching these texts with pedagogical methods. It is aimed for students to learn Ottoman Turkish both theoretically and practically by focusing on Ottoman manuscripts, archive documents and literary texts.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Can correctly read and understand texts written in Ottoman Turkish.
2   2. Has an advanced understanding of the grammar and syntax rules used in Ottoman Turkish.
3   3. Can read and analyze Ottoman manuscripts and archive documents.
4   4. Learn and apply the methods used in teaching Ottoman Turkish.
5   5. Recognize terms, abbreviations and symbols used in historical texts.
6   6. Gain the ability to teach literary and official texts written in Ottoman Turkish using pedagogical methods.
7   7. Analyze the changes in the language by comparing Ottoman Turkish texts from different periods.
8   8. Evaluate the influence of Ottoman Turkish on modern Turkish.
