Course Objective

The aim of this course is to enable prospective teachers to understand folk literature products within cultural, historical, and educational contexts and to develop knowledge, skills, and awareness regarding how to teach these materials in classroom settings. While introducing folk literature genres, the course also covers contemporary instructional methods, techniques, material development strategies, digital tools, and assessment approaches.

1   To be able to analyze folk literature products within cultural, historical, and educational contexts
2   To be able to identifiy appropriate folk literature genres based on student developmental levels and designs instructional plans accordingly
3   To be able to apply effective teaching methods, techniques, and materials in folk literature instruction
4   To be able to develop original instructional materials using digital tools and contemporary approaches
5   To be able to use assessment and evaluation tools appropriately within the instructional process

2 The nature of folk literature: Oral culture, collective memory, anonymity
3 Narrative folk literature genres: Tales, legends, epics, jokes
4 Educational use of narrative folk genres
5 Poetic folk literature genres: "Mani", lullabies, folk songs, laments, "koşma"
6 Minstrel-style poetry tradition and classroom applications
7 Religious/mystic poetry and its connection to values education
8 Midterm Exam
9 Themes in folk literature and value transmission
10 Selecting folk literature samples appropriate for student levels
11 Content adaptation methods in folk literature teaching
12 Teaching folk literature through interdisciplinary approaches
13 Folk literature in national curricula
14 Student presentations: Genre introduction and classroom applications
15 General evaluation, feedback, and semester summary
