Course Objective

The aim of this course is to further develop students' understanding of how our identities are produced and maintained through the interaction between language and culture.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. describing the central importance of language in the formation of people's (personal, social and professional) identities
2   2. explaining the main ideas in identity theories in the context of linguistic diversity
3   3. associating the functions of identity such as social membership, narrative, historical memory with language
4   4. developing the ability to position and represent oneself in society through language
