Course Objective

The aim of this study is to raise awareness about the changes in museum approaches over time; current museum practices; museums' learning, research and communication functions; exhibition approaches and museum spaces.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To have knowledge about concepts related to museums
2   Ability to define museum approaches and general design principles
3   Ability to interpret different museum spaces in the context of learning, research, communication and experience.
4   Explaining the design principles of museums through museum examples.
5   Ability to evaluate museum approaches and design principles of different museum types in all their dimensions by correlating them.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The instructor will conduct presentations to introduce theoretical knowledge and basic concepts related to the subject. Different museum buildings will be discussed with the participation of students through examples. Some museums in Izmir will be visited. Students will make presentations on museums they have researched based on the topics discussed in class.
