Course Objective

To establish the conceptual framework on the sociology of religious movements within the framework of Islamic sects and to introduce and analyze the religious movements and groups that emerged in Turkey from the establishment of the Republic to the present day.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Student explains the reasons affecting the emergence of religious movements in Turkey.
2   Student analyzes the structural features of religious movements.
3   Student learns about the leader and supporter profiles of religious movements.
4   Student examines the processes of congregationalization.

Course Policies and Rules

Each week the relevant parts will be read before coming to class and the class will be interactive with the active participation of each student. Homework assignments must be submitted by the students on the requested dates. Assignments submitted after the requested date will not be evaluated. Students will be asked to respect the class hours and will be informed that those who will be late for more than 15 minutes or who cannot attend the class will be taken into consideration in the evaluation.
