Course Objective

The aim of this course is to enable prospective primary school teachers to understand the concepts related to basic mathematical subjects such as fractions, decimals, geometry, measurement and data management, the learning difficulties that students may encounter in these areas and the conceptual development processes. In addition, it is aimed for prospective teachers to be able to design activities suitable for the achievements in the primary school mathematics curriculum by recognizing teaching approaches, models and materials, and multiple measurement-evaluation techniques for these subjects.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Identifies fractions, decimals, and student difficulties related to these concepts.
2   Relates the development process of geometric thinking to appropriate teaching methods.
3   Develops teaching activities related to measurement concepts (length, area, volume, time, weighing, money).
4   Develops examples for teaching data management, tables, and graphs.
