Course Objective

The aim of this course is to enhance prospective teachers' theoretical knowledge and pedagogical competencies related to science education. Within this scope, the course addresses the nature of science, technology, scientific knowledge, and the scientific method; science and technology literacy; the interrelationships among science, technology, society, and the environment; the objectives of science education; the historical development of science education in Turkey and around the world; the constructivist learning approach; the fundamental characteristics of the primary school science curriculum and its integration with other subjects; and the development of scientific process skills through sample instructional practices. The course ultimately aims to support prospective teachers in developing a holistic understanding of and competence in effective science teaching.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Demonstrating knowledge of fundamental concepts related to science and science education.
2   Explaining the concept of scientific literacy.
3   Developing positive attitudes toward the fields of science, technology, and the environment.
4   Understanding the characteristics of the primary school science curriculum.
5   Acquiring knowledge of contemporary educational approaches and learning theories.
6   Gaining knowledge of instructional methods and techniques used in science teaching.
7   Designing and developing various instructional materials and tools utilized in teaching processes.
