Course Objective

To equip prospective music teachers with the skills to use tone production, posture, bowing technique, and musical expression in a healthy, accurate, aesthetically pleasing, and effective manner during the viola playing process; and to develop pedagogical and technical competence in viola instruction.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Applies basic viola techniques (posture, instrument hold, bowing, and fingering) accurately.
2   Performs études and repertoire pieces with technically correct position transitions.
3   Produces a healthy and aesthetically pleasing tone on the viola and controls tone quality.
4   nalyzes and performs national and international repertoire appropriate to the student s level.
5   Utilizes instructional materials and techniques related to viola education within the context of music teaching.
6   Develops musical expression and gains interpretative skills.
7   Develops pedagogical knowledge and practical teaching skills related to viola instruction.
