Course Objective

The aim of this course is to foster the creativity of prospective music teachers in the field of educational music repertoire; to introduce the fundamental techniques used in composing educational music; and to guide students in creating musically, structurally, and pedagogically appropriate works with regard to melody-lyrics harmony (prosody), form, and content integrity.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Identifies the functional and pedagogical aspects of educational music,
2   2. Completes a given musical phrase through improvisation,
3   3. Develops the ability to write vocal children s songs by learning the principles of prosody,
4   4. Applies musical structures (such as periods, parallel and contrasting phrases) within the context of educational music,
5   5. Writes lyrics that conform to prosody rules for a given melody,
6   6. Creates original musical works inspired by visual stimuli (e.g., paintings, cartoons),
7   7. Arranges piano accompaniments for school songs,
8   8. Designs, implements, and presents his/her own original educational music composition.

1 1. Introduction to the course, the concept and history of educational music, and an overview of creative processes
2 2. Completing a given musical phrase through improvisation
3 3. Techniques for writing closing phrases in parallel and contrasting structures
4 4. Creating musical periods and writing lyrics for composed musical structures
5 5. Prosody: Theoretical and practical studies on the harmony between music and lyrics
6 6. Analysis of examples from the educational music repertoire; arranging piano accompaniments for school songs
7 7. Composing songs based on children's poetry: achieving rhythmic and melodic coherence
8 8. General review, course evaluation, midterm examMidterm Exam
9 9. Writing lyrics for a given melody in accordance with prosodic principles
10 10. March composition techniques and pedagogical suitability principles
11 11. Learning the canon form and creating original canon exercises
