Course Objective

This course aims to enhance the student's technical and musical proficiency on the viola by focusing on position changes, agility in left-hand technique, vibrato basics, and ornamentation. Students will learn to transition fluently between first and third positions, apply advanced bowing techniques across all strings, and perform polyphonic national and international works appropriate to their level with musical expression and technical control.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Practices various finger placement and acceleration exercises within the current position.
2   Applies mixed bowing techniques across four strings with stability and flexibility in the newly learned positions.
3   Improves détaché and legato bowing skills.
4   Understands the fundamentals of vibrato technique.
5   Performs polyphonic national and international repertoire that reflects both technical and musical competence.
6   Critically evaluates their viola performance knowledge and skills.
7   Designs creative activities appropriate to their current level of viola study.
8   Demonstrates motivation to learn new content and engage in self-improvement.
