Course Objective

The main objective of this course is to provide students with the ability to analyze and interpret significant novels from various periods of Turkish literature in depth. Students will be able to examine the structural features, themes, characters, narrative techniques, the author's style, relation to literary movements, and the socio-historical and cultural context of novels. They will also learn to apply various critical approaches and develop a multidimensional, analytical perspective toward literary texts.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Explain the historical development and turning points of the novel genre in Turkish literature.
2   Identify major Turkish novelists and their works from the Tanzimat period to the present.
3   Analyze structural elements (plot, characters, time, setting, narrator, point of view, etc.) of selected Turkish novels.
4   Identify and interpret the main themes, motifs, and symbols in the novels studied.
5   Evaluate the psychological depth, social roles, and ideological representations of characters.
6   Recognize and interpret different narrative techniques (interior monologue, stream of consciousness, flashback, foreshadowing, etc.).
7   Analyze authors distinctive styles, language usage, and narrative methods.
8   Relate the novels to the historical, social, cultural, and political context of their time.
