Course Objective

The aim of the Semantics course is to investigate the semantic properties of languages and to examine the semantic relations that emerge at the semantic and syntagmatic levels from a linguistic perspective. In the course, the methods developed by different linguists on meaning will be examined and students will be provided with the opportunity to discover semantic relations.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to identify semantic features of languages

3   To be able to determine semantic relations
4   To be able to define, classify and distinguish types of meaning
5   To be able to discuss in detail the elements of de Saussure's sign model and Ogden and Richards' semiotic triangle based on the definition of the word
6   To be able to distinguish between meaning and concept

Assessment Criteria

The success of the student is determined by the midterm and final exam grades. Apart from this, there is no special evaluation criterion.
