Course Objective

The main purpose of this course is to provide primary school mathematics teacher candidates with the skills to plan, implement, record through video and analyze with peer feedback effective teaching strategies for the middle school mathematics curriculum. It is aimed for teacher candidates to evaluate their own teaching practices critically through video recordings, to examine and create different pedagogical approaches (teacher-student interaction, use of materials, different teaching formats, etc.) in depth through video analysis and to develop innovative approaches for effective mathematics teaching.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Defines and explains various effective teaching strategies for middle school mathematics subjects.
2   Plans a mathematics lesson section to include effective teaching strategies.
3   Implement and record the planned mathematics lesson section via video.
4   Critically analyzes his/her own and his/her peers' teaching practices through video recordings using specific analysis frameworks.
5   Provides constructive feedback on teaching strategies, teacher-student interaction, material use, and different teaching formats (full class, group work) based on video analysis.
6   Identifies strengths and areas of development in teaching practices through video analysis and determines steps for self-improvement accordingly.
7   Establishes the relationship between theory and practice in mathematics teaching through video analysis.
8   Works effectively in collaboration and manages the process of preparing teaching videos (planning, shooting, editing).
