Course Objective

This course aims to develop the knowledge and practical skills which are required to teach English to young learners effectively. It provides practical ideas on how to approach and plan for young learner courses as well as materials and ideas for specific activities. You will develop your awareness of what children aged 5 to 12 are capable of, what they enjoy and what strategies work best to motivate them to learn.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To explain and demonstrate the various EFL approaches, principles, methods and techniques appropriate for young and very young learners.
2   To select and/or adapt texts, audio and visual material, and other media appropriate for use in the EFL classroom for young and very young learners
3   To understand and demonstrate appropriate activities for teaching listening, speaking, reading, writing.
4   To understand and demonstrate appropriate activities for grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation for young EFL learners
5   To conduct a needs analysis, develop a learner profile, and then develop a lesson plan which would be appropriate for young and very young learners in a specific context
