Course Objective

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Define the main trends of 21st century German literature.
2   Analyse prominent themes in contemporary German literature (migration, identity, gender, memory, digitalisation, etc.).
3   Evaluate selected literary texts in relation to their social, historical and cultural contexts.
4   Explain the formal differences between literary genres (novel, short story, poetry, theatre, essay, etc.).
5   Develop a critical view on current debates in German literature.
6   Make independent comments on a literary text and prepare an oral/written presentation at academic level.
7   Develop the ability to read and analyse contemporary texts written in German in their original language

Assessment Criteria

The success of the student is determined by the grade to be obtained from the midterm and final exams of the course. Apart from this, there is no special evaluation criterion.
